The
SWI and the General Secretariat of the Arab Congress for Philanthropy
convened a seminar entitled " Non - profit organizations and
Technology " on June 12 th and 13 th at its headquarters Al Zaher
, Beirut, under the auspices of the Prime Minister.
It was attended by 22 delegates from different philanthropic organizations
in Jordan - the United Arab Emirates, the kingdom of Saudi Arabia,
Quatar, Kuweit, Egypt, Yemen & Lebanon.
Seven speakers tackled the following themes :
The internet, technology planning for NGOs, cooperation among civil
organizations to further development through technological tools.
At the end of seven sessions that lasted two days of work, the participants
agreed on the following:
Stressing the necessity of introducing technology to cover all human
fields in the NGOs to promote their capacity building, and attain
their goals, mainly their fight against poverty, social care and human
development fields.
The Closing
recommendations stressed on the following:
-Training employees and staff about the use of technology
- Exchanging technological programs and experiences among NGOs
- The scientific process about computer use is of paramount necessity.
- Establishing an arab computer center, specialized in promoting
the use of technology in NGOs.
- Establishing databases about NGOs
- Stressing the importance of media in spreading information about
NGOs activities.
- Forging closer ties with arab and international foundations, organizations
and scientific research centers.
- Stressing the bright image of corporate partnership with NGO through
investment and technology.
- Looking towards corporate giving as a basic source for raising
funds.
- Following-up the emergence of new economies and the use of e-cooperation
to the benefit of NGOs.
- Increase the reliance on arab capacities while calling on foreign
ones to complement them.
- Encouraging the NGOs to establish websites and networking.
At the end of the conference the participants expressed the hopes
that SWI would create a center for networking the arab NGOs, to
be located at Al Zaher.
